Annotation

The program offers an interdisciplinary approach, combining history, anthropology, sociology, and political science. It is taught entirely in English and focuses on the historical, social, and political transformations of the Middle East and Africa.

Course Structure

The program consists of three core modules (10 ECTS each):

  1. Africa (KBS/1AFC): Covers decolonization, systems of governance, military dictatorships, and 21st-century economic growth.
  2. Middle East (KBS/1MEC): Focuses on post-WWII history, major conflicts, Islamic movements, and the Arab Spring.
  3. Colonialism and Postcolonialism (KBS/1COC): Examines the construction of racial categories, gender, nationalism, and globalization.

Learning Outcomes

Conditions for Obtaining the Certificate

The micro-credential is awarded based on a composite evaluation:

  • Active Participation: Attendance and engagement in seminars and group work.
  • Written Examination: A paper on a selected topic.
  • Presentation: Analytical work with scholarly sources.

Final Oral Exam: A comprehensive evaluation to conclude the program.
