Habilitation Procedure
The habilitation programme of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology is interdisciplinary. It is intended for researchers concerned with investigating the broader philosophical, historical, and social conditions of the emergence and development of individual scientific disciplines as a whole, as well as specific scientific hypotheses, concepts, and theories, together with their technical applications.
The habilitation programme is defined by analogy with the related doctoral studies, which aim to deepen a systematic understanding of philosophy, methodology, and history of science and technology. At the same time, philosophy is conceived as a source and critical reflection of the contemporary view of the world and the state of knowledge, including science and technology. The focus of the discipline is to understand and interpret the historical development of science and scientific knowledge as part of cultural history. Thus, science is not studied in isolation but in the social and cultural context – both in terms of the conditions of the emergence of scientific knowledge and its impact, mainly the technological development. Technology conceived in this way as a consequence of scientific development is reflected particularly in how technological development transforms the concept of humans and their relationship to the world.
In addition to the traditional historical-philosophical exploration of the history of science and technology, the habilitation programme thus creates a space for scholars focused on the theoretical reflection on new technologies and establishes a platform for interdisciplinary research, especially on the edge of philosophy of language and mind, artificial intelligence, or cognitive sciences.
