Social and Cultural Anthropology

Description: 
The goal of this course is to enable the students to orientate in the basic terminology, concepts and theory of the cultural anthropology; to familiarize them with the work of the most important anthropologists; to present them the key anthropological publications and to show the examples of anthropological research of various kinds of societies. In the framework of this course, the anthropological theory of culture and the related terminology will be explained. In conclusion to the theories of culture and society, other fields of study of classical anthropology, like the kinship, economical, political, and religious systems as well as the relationship between language and culture will be explained. Apart from classical themes and approaches, the possibilites of study of the modern complex societies will be presented. Particular ethnographical and historical examples, related publiacations and important researchers will be presented for each of the topics.

Description: 
The subject opens several classical chapters dedicated: to the destiny of the Cyril?s and Method?s literary legacy, which is now stored in Russian museums; to the reanimation of East liturgy that Charles IV had been supporting during his realm; to the Peter?s I intention as for drafting Czech actors for Russian theatre; to the allied help of Russian Empire that militarily had helped to Austro-Hungary in wars in Europe; to the problematic of Czechoslovak legionnaires dislocated in Russia; to the Russian-Czech and Czech-Russian literary and translational parallels. Excursions in the Region

Description: 
The aim is both theoretically and practically presenting the region (Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, South Bohemia) for international students at the Faculty of Arts. During the course there will be excursions (culture, of history, local history, practical), under which inernational students recognize the important sites and attractions of the city of Pilsen, the Pilsen Region (far away and around Pilsen) and selected sites in neighboring regions, possibly in the interregion. During the exercise will be conducted theoretical preparation for the excursion and subsequent analysis undertaken tours in discussions and group work.

The aim of the course is to introduce international students to selected Slavic languages (esp. West Slavic and East Slavic) by comparing the development of their phonetic system, vocabulary, ways of enrichment and word formation, morphological and syntactic system. Historical Jesus and Jewish Roots of Christianity

Description: 
The course is intended for foreign students (Erasmus) and is taught in English only. The aim of the course is to introduce the main results of research on the historical Jesus and to present him in his original Jewish context. Based on a historical-critical analysis of the sources, a probable reconstruction of Jesus' life, the main features of his public appearance, his own self-understanding and his process and death on the cross will be presented. Everything will be framed by the explanation of the Judaism of the Second Temple as the background from which Jesus' message came.
